Memorial Day: Honoring the True Reason for Celebration
As Memorial Day approaches, many of us look forward to the long weekend filled with barbecues, family gatherings, and the unofficial start of summer. While these traditions are enjoyable, it’s important to remember the true reason behind this significant holiday, which is to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance dedicated to those who lost their lives defending our country. It originated after the Civil War, a conflict that claimed more lives than any other in American history. Initially known as Decoration Day, it was a time when families and communities would decorate the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers and flags. Over time, this tradition evolved into the national holiday we observe today.
